The Salvation Army (TSA) is famous world wide for its many Brass bands. The Oslo Temple Band is one of these bands, linked to the Central Corps (Salvation Army Church) in Oslo, Norway. The Band was formed in 1888, the year TSA started work in Norway, and it is one of the oldest Bands in the country. The 30 members are all amateur musicians who belong to and give of their free time to TSA, the youngest being 18 and the oldest 77.

Among the members we find students, teachers, nurses, doctors, engineers and financial advisors – to mention a few of the many occupations. The Band even has its own psychiatrist (!) and a former deputy minister of the Norwegian Cabinet.

The Oslo Temple Band is a very active group of high musical quality. In addition to its weekly practice the Band also takes parts in the Corps’ service every Sunday and frequently gives concerts. The Band has undertaken numerous domestic tours, and also visited Zambia and Zimbabwe, Chile, England, Spain, Russia, Iceland, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Sweden and Denmark.

Since autumn of 2007 Yngve Slettholm is the conductor of the band. The band has a varied and extensive repertoire that consists of Norwegian music, Church music, Classical transcriptions, modern and “light” music as well as traditional Brass Band compositions from TSA. In later years the Oslo Temple has established contact with the music scene outside the Army and worked with well known Norwegian Professional musicians, groups and bands. The band has produced a CD and frequently performs on national radio and television.

The central message in the bands repertoire is of God who loves us all, and the bands mission is to spread blessing, joy and happiness to its audience.
